Laura Miller, Director of Admissions & Advancement
Welcome to Amherst Montessori School!
We are delighted that you would like to learn more about our school. The first step is to request a brochure. We will send you detailed information about all of our programs, admissions procedures, and tuition & fees. Request information here.
Parent Tours
The next step in the admissions process is to come for a parent tour. Tours are available most weekday mornings at 9:30 AM, beginning in October, and last for about one hour. This vital component of the admissions process allows you to meet with the Director of Admissions, observe in the classrooms, tour the campus, and ask all of your questions. The campus visit is a key element in determining whether Amherst Montessori School is right for your family.
To schedule a tour, please contact Laura Miller, Director of Admissions & Advancement, at (413) 253-3101 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Application
Upon visiting the school, you will receive an application for admissions. To apply, please complete the application and submit it to the school along with a $40 application fee. The priority deadline for admission for September 2012 is March 1, 2012. After March 1, admission will be made on a rolling basis if space is available.
Once your application has been received, it will go into a waiting pool. In March, we will contact applicant families to schedule classroom visits with their children. We do this once we know exactly how many openings we will have in our programs for the following year.
Child's Classroom Visit
The child's visit to the school is designed to assess social, emotional, and academic readiness, as well as developmental fit in a Montessori classroom. Children who are applying to our Children's House or Elementary programs will spend time in the classrooms independently of their parents; Toddlers will spend time in the classroom with their parent present. For our Toddler and Children's House programs, visits will last 45 minutes to one hour. For Elementary applicants, the visit will encompass a morning work cycle through lunch and recess.
Admissions Decisions
Admissions decisions are based on several factors, including the child's ability and readiness to thrive within the independence of the Montessori classroom; the family's understanding of and commitment to Montessori education, particluarly the completion of at least one three-year cycle at AMS; and the demographics of the classroom to which the child is applying. If an offer of admission can be made, you will receive the offer in writing, along with a contract. A deposit of $750 and your signed contract are required to secure your child's enrollment at Amherst Montessori School.
